The newspaper is used simply to catch any stray sand that may fall off the plate that your kids are supposed to be holding over, and trust me, there will be stray sand. The newspapers just make it easier to clean up later when the kids are done. I use the plastic cups to hold the glue, which also makes for easy cleanup as well. You will also want to dilute the glue with about a teaspoon of water for every 14 cup of glue you use. This helps to make a thin and even coating whenever the kids are applying it onto the jars.
Fruit place settings - This will add a splash of color to your table and allow you to control the seating plan for your dinner party in a fun and easy way. Write each guest's name directly on a piece of fruit using a black marker. Place each fruit, name side up, on a dinner plate to denote their place setting. Do not feel obligated to use the same fruit for each place setting. You could use one type of fruit for each family or couple, or even a different fruit for each person.
Multiple vases is one way to get creative with arrangement. You can have a trio of pieces ranging in size from large to small lining a mantel or even resting on a coffee table. The colors on vase arrangements can range, and you can get rather creative choosing contrasting and complimentary tones for tandem vase pieces.
The popularity of long rectangular reception tables has made it possible to try out some clever new centerpiece designs. A very stylish look is a centerpiece which is based on moss displayed directly on the table surface without a vessel. Arrange the moss in a long naturally shaped form down the center of the dinner table. Decorate it with clusters of fresh flowers and other natural elements like herbs or ferns. It would be particularly stunning for a forest theme wedding with the bride wearing an artfully shredded tulle gown and handmade wedding jewelry, whether the reception site is indoors or actually in a forest clearing.
